Modern Day Hero

MY ICON

In our culture, we consider brave and strong people as our hero. In their fearless and manful acts, we are in awe to them.

As a youth in this modern and technological world, simple and amazing acts are now what we wonder and consider as our heroes. We admire and idolize them and even tried to do what they do or wear what they wear. Simply, we are trying to imitate them.

I, also, have my own modern day hero. She’s the root of my generation and the root of my life. She is my grandmother. There are two main reasons why she is my icon: first, she’s a teacher. We all know that teachers are great for they sacrifice a lot of their time and efforts for the young people. And because of them, we are supported and helped for our future. Second, she took care of me in the most complicated stage of my life, my high school life. In the absence of my parents, she guided me. And I dedicate to her the success of my studies as a token to her goodness and greatness to me.

To Mirror My Experiences

An Update in My Past:
School Experiences of a Dreamer

A child, as he grows gained different things and learnings in his life. Curiosity gets the best of a child and he will do an act to solve that curiosity.
Being a matured high school student, I had gathered different things and experiences in my life, such thing at first that I don’t know. Almost all my life, I gained everything at school. A school, where a child spends eight to nine hours per day of his life to study, to where he sits in the four corners of a classroom and where he learn to read, write, speak and listen to everyone. This is where a learner meets new people that can make or break his life.
In my first grading period in senior year at Ilocos Sur National High School, I can’t say or conclude that I had the best among the rest. Although we can all be the best in different aspects. What really remains in my mind after nine weeks at school is that, I am late in my first day of school. So cliché! But it really is. After finally meeting all of my teachers, I know this won’t be as easy as what I have thought it would be.
ICT, where I learn my computer, is what comes first in my list. What do I encounter? Two things: a) We barely meet our teacher in the earlier part of the grading period because of very important things in the part of my teacher and also in our part as a student, b) I have missed two out of three quizzes. I know it’s my fault but I just want to share and for you to know what to do. We barely meet our teacher because she has to practice and manage important things for the Nutrition Month Celebration. And we understand that because she never left us with nothing to do. What I had wanted is copying notes. That’s my favorite, to copy. Because the class is silent when they are busy, which means I have a break to a noisy country. And to our part as a student, it is because my classmates are practicing for the Nutri-jingle. We, Rizalians, are aiming to at least make it to the finals but unfortunately, we didn’t. But it’s no big deal because in every competition there is a winner and a loser and I think this time we are the latter. All in all, I love my first grading period in ICT because our teacher is not only pretty and charming but is also a good mentor, and guide to us students. She speaks loud and clear and is very humiliating for specific time.
In my other subjects, I only encountered minimal problems like last-minute assignments and projects, Nothing too serious and nothing that I can’t handle. Also, in my Mathematics, I think I excel because of the results of my quizzes and activities.

I really had a pretty good grading period and I just hope that the next ones will be like this or better.

SONA 2014

5th State of the Nation Address
President Benigno Aquino III

As time goes by, a nation becomes stronger or weaker. It needs someone to lead and guide its people towards success. And its success is the wealth and excellency of its people.

Last July 28, 2014, in the Philippines, President Benigno Aquino III delivered his 5th State of the Nations Address (SONA) at the Session Hall of the House of Representatives, Batasang Pambansa Complex, Quezon City. Former President Fidel V. Ramos, Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senate President Franklin Drilon, other officials of the government, well-known people and media-men were present to witness the SONA of President Aquino.

In his SONA, he said that the Filipinos are worth fighting for. And because of that, he mentioned different success of his administration and the different agencies.

For the Department of Education, 66% of the Training-for-work Scholarship beneficiaries are already on job while the remaining 34% is still looking for something and they are being helped by the TESDA. He also forenamed the programs and works of other agencies and even got especial mentions to the cabinet secretaries like Secretary Babes Singson and Secretary Linda Baldoz, and their companions in doing those projects.

He is also planning a P2.606 trillion budget for the next year.

What I had noticed is that, he just stated to all of us his success. But what the people also want to know is, what is already happening? We all want an update about our current issues because Filipinos don’t want to sit back and relax while their taxes are being corrupted by the people whom once we have laid our trusts. We want our answers about the dirtiness of these people. The Filipinos can’t wait  to have their justice!

Why does he only informed us minimal information for the Department of Education? This is where everything started. This is where a youth’s being is mold and where you begin to step for a better future. Many schools are lacking facilities and equipment for learning. Because we students need these materials so we can earn our gems and gold easier than waiting for like forever. Everyone wants a better future.

After the SONA, I am satisfied to his reports but most probably not too happy about not discussing the PDAF Scam, and the Disbursement Acceleration Program. The Filipinos were expecting for him to at least say something about the current issues in the economy of the Philippines.
